Let's tackle hunger with the CUMAC Souper Bowl!
Every year the Super Bowl is watched by millions of people worldwide. Years ago a community in South Carolina had the idea of transforming this huge event into an opportunity to help the less fortunate. That’s how the Souper Bowl of Caring was born. Since its humble beginnings, its become a nationwide weekend of giving back. Thousands of groups now collect millions of donations for food pantries everywhere on Super Bowl Weekend each year. In the spirit of this tradition, CUMAC will be hosting a Souper Bowl challenge this year. We hope you'll join the fun!
How does it work? The CUMAC Souper Bowl is a two-week collection challenge open to anyone. The competition starts on Friday, January 16 and runs through Friday, January 30. Participants can register any time before or during the competition. Once your group is signed up, you will be assigned to one of two teams, Team Green or Team Blue. Groups can then start collecting food and/or monetary donations. Each team has until Wednesday, January 30 to drop off their collection or to schedule a pick-up.
The Rules: Teams score points for each donation, with the winner being determined by points scored. For example $1.00 = 1 point and 1 can of food = 1 point. The team with the most points by the competition deadline will be our CUMAC Souper Bowl winner. During the competition, CUMAC will keep track of all team collections, and keep groups posted on team scores. The Monday following the Super Bowl (February 2) the final score will be tallied & the winning team will be announced. The best part? There are no losers! All collections will benefit those struggling with hunger in our community. Every donation makes a difference!
How do I sign up? Register your group here and help us make this year's Souper Bowl a great success! Don't know where to begin? Let us help you get started! See CUMAC's Collection Kit for ideas, materials, and tips for holding a collection.
Remember: Pick-ups must be scheduled well in advance and Souper Bowl collections received after January 30 cannot count toward your team's point total.
