The CUMAC Collection Kit:
Quick tips to make your collection a success.

6 Things to Remember When Holding a Collection:
1. Contact CUMAC & let us know about your collection
2. Determine a timeline. Choose a start/end date and stick to it.
3. Advertise! Advertise! Advertise!

4. Get creative & make it competitive
5. Arrange for a pick-up or drop-off of the food
6. Collections work best in groups. Get your school, office, or religious home involved!
What are your "most-needed" items and why are they so important?
Here's a list of our regular pantry needs. Every donation makes a difference in the fight against hunger, but there are certain types of food that CUMAC is always in need of -- like protein items. Protein provides a vital function in our diet and, unfortunately, many people struggling with hunger just don't get enough of it. And that's not all! There are several other foods often in short supply at our pantry, like canned fruit, peanut butter or baby food.
These foods seem to fly off our shelves! That means less access to healthy food and a greater likelihood that our clients aren't getting the nutrients they so desperately need. But you can help change that! Collections are a great way to replenish our pantry's greatest needs.

How can I promote my collection? Use flyers, e-mail, social media, word of mouth, and everything in between to spread the word about your collection! Here are some promotional materials that can come in handy: A collection handout & flyer, a CUMAC donation sign, and CUMAC's brochure.
How to get the most out of your collection
Turn your collection into a competition! Try setting a collection goal or breaking your group into teams (i.e. every department of your office, every class in your school, etc.) to collect a particular food item. Maybe you would rather keep it simple and build your collection around one team and one item -- like collecting soup for the Souperbowl. There are so many ways you can run your collection; find out what works best for your group and stick to it. No time to plan a collection? Pass around a bowl on Super Bowl Sunday and ask for donations. CUMAC can provide a meal for only $0.50 so every donation counts in our fight against hunger. Feel free to call our office (973-742-5518) for more ideas!

Thank you for your help!
Our work would not be possible without the support of groups like yours. Together, we're making a difference in the fight against hunger.
