Long lines at the door and dwindling supplies are a sign that summer has arrived at CUMAC’s food pantry in Paterson, NJ. At a time of year when many are making travel arrangements and planning barbecues, thousands of families in New Jersey are struggling with food insecurity and need assistance. “I don’t know how we would manage without the pantry” says Vanessa, a mother of two and CUMAC client. “These groceries are keeping us going.” It is a critical time for Vanessa’s family. Though she works full time, the family is on a tight budget this summer. With her kids on break from school she will need food from CUMAC’s pantry to ensure that she can pay her bills this month. CUMAC Hosts Logo Design Contest
CUMAC, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting hunger in New Jersey, is celebrating 30 years of service this year. As part of the anniversary celebration CUMAC is inviting local artists to participate in a contest to redesign its logo and give the organization an updated look. The contest is open to the public and submissions will be accepted from May 1-July 15.The top design will be featured on CUMAC’s website and promotional materials, and the winner will be invited to an unveiling event in the fall. CUMAC celebrates its 30th anniversary this month, marking three decades of fighting hunger in northern New Jersey. Incorporated in 1985, CUMAC first operated as a volunteer-run organization, working out of a borrowed church closet and providing groceries to a few dozen families. Since then CUMAC has grown to become a multi-service agency, serving over 3,000 low-income residents monthly from a 28,000 square foot facility in downtown Paterson.

CUMAC’s annual HELP Dinner will be held at The Tides in North Haledon, NJ on Tuesday, November 18. The event, celebrating its seventeenth year, honors outstanding individuals and groups contributing to the fight against hunger in New Jersey. CUMAC anticipates having over 200 guests coming together next month to reflect on a year of altruism and teamwork. Read more.

Deloitte & Touche will partner with CUMAC this Friday, June 6 to distribute over 14,000 pounds of fresh produce to the city of Paterson. This marks the third consecutive year the two groups are collaborating to turn Deloitte’s Impact Day into a day of healthy eating for the community. Read more.

This June marks the 20th anniversary of Curbing Hunger, a community-based program that collects food for the hungry at times of the year when food pantry supplies are low. In honor of this milestone, Curbing Hunger is expanding its Somerset County roots to serve families all over New Jersey through an online, statewide food drive. Curbing Hunger is partnering with CUMAC and other agencies

This year marks the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ first performance in the United States. In honor of the legendary group, the YouChoose Band will be hosting Beatles Night, an evening of Beatles music on Saturday, March 15 at the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of NJ. Beatles-lovers will have the opportunity to hear some of their favorite tracks while supporting anti-hunger efforts in New Jersey. All proceeds from the show will benefit CUMAC, Passaic County’s largest food pantry. Read more.

They came from all walks of life and five New Jersey counties to make a
difference in the lives of residents in New Jersey. When more than 300 volunteers gathered at The Hope Community Center in Paterson’s Northside district with the goal of packaging 25,000 meals, they found out they were part of an even bigger vision. They were one of seven sites in five states, ME, MA, NJ, PA, and VT involved in Outreach–Kids Care meal packaging events in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. At the end of the weekend, 1,400 volunteers collectively assembled 212,346 non-perishable meals for the residents of their respective states.
