Students Taking Action Against Hunger
The students of Montclair State Dietetic Organization are fighting hunger in New Jersey in a big way. Every month you can find this wonderful group somewhere around our building, volunteering their time and doing whatever is needed to help CUMAC change lives. Just this month the group set up a food drive at Kings Market in Montclair and held a campus collection for food and grocery bags. The two-day collection brought in over 115 pounds of food and several boxes full of plastic bags. As CUMAC continues to serve more people than ever, collections like these are ensuring that no family in our community goes hungry. Thanks MSDO for being such a huge part of our work! We are lucky to have you as a partner!

Online Food Drive Raises Over $1,000 To Fight Hunger
Gabrielle is an aspiring osteopathic physician and student who loves to run and travel. After seeing a commercial about food insecurity last month Gabrielle was inspired to learn more about hunger. She quickly realized how many Americans are struggling to put food on the table (about 1 in 6) and for Gabrielle the experience was eye-opening. “The common misconception is that hunger is only prevalent amongst the poor and homeless. It’s often hard-working people, children, adults and seniors who just cannot always make ends meet and sometimes may be forced to go without food,” she explained. Troubled by her research, Gabrielle decided to take action and start an online food drive.
Using YouGiveGoods, an online food drive platform, Gabrielle raised over $1,000 worth of food in just one month. “I wanted to be a small part in helping our community,” she said. With 458 pounds of food collected, her efforts were anything but small. The items, ranging from pasta and rice to canned fruit and vegetables, were delivered to our building this week — just in time to stock our pantry which has seen a huge increase in clients this year.

Gabrielle will be applying to medical school this spring (we'll be wishing her lots of luck) but she also plans to continue volunteering. We couldn't be more excited to have her as part of our team. With the support of volunteers like Gabrielle, CUMAC is serving more people than ever. Thanks Gabrielle for giving back to your community and taking action against hunger!
